Counselling for parents, partners and carers

Special Needs Counselling supports parents, partners and carers of people with disabilities or medical conditions in North East Essex. It offers a specialist service to help with a variety of issues that are exacerbated by caring and child

It does not offer practical support or advice but gives you a safe space to explore your situation.

As a parent or carer of a person with a disability or long term health need, there may be times when you feel you need someone impartial to talk to. This can be especially important when dealing with issues such as:-

  • new diagnosis

  • caring commitments

  • loss of previous lifestyle

  • prognosis

  • managing medical condition

  • feeling of isolation

  • not feeling heard or understood

  • managing feelings around what the future holds

  • respite

  • transitioning a loved one into residential care

It can offer you a safe, confidential space to explore how you feel about what is happening. Meeting the needs iStock_000016553638Smallof someone you care for can be overwhelming. Often they will have many professionals involved in their lives. The sessions will give you time to explore how things are for you in a non judgmental safe environment.

Counselling aims to help you explore and clarify issues that matter to you. It can assist you in developing coping skills, which you can utilise if or when future problems arise. Counselling can give you the opportunity to work in ways which promote your ability to resolve problems, or to cope with things which cannot be changed. It can help you get to know yourself better and develop your potential.
